This story about an interview with Bjarne Stroustrup (inventor of C++) recently caught my attention as it is a part of why this organisation exists.

In particular, a great quote from Bjarne Stroustrup, inventor of the C++ language, regarding the importance of colaborative development skills:
'Serious programming is a team sport, brush up on your social skills. The sloppy fat geek computer genius semi-buried in a pile of pizza boxes and cola cans is a mythical creature, best buried deep, never to be seen again.'" - Bjarne Stroustrup
Here's another great quote from Apache founder Brian Behlendorf (& speaker at the OAK01 osbootcamp event) :
"As an undergrad, I learned many useful software skills, from balancing my curly brackets in Scheme to tracking down memory corruption in C code. However, I wasn't taught the things that really seem to matter today to modern programmers - such as how to collaborate or how to re-use and extend someone else's software." - Brian Behlendorf
As I often say to my interns and students - any fool can write code. It takes talent to develop complex software with many other smart people. In my career, I've had the pleasure of working with some extremely talented people. Often, there would be a room full of smart people with brilliant ideas about how to solve problems. Without the ability to reach consensus brilliant ideas never turn into effective solutions. Tools and techniques to facilitate discussions and help reach consensus are not taught in computer science programs today (or any other programs with the possible exception of business). Thus, this will make a great theme for a future event.
