Description:
Dave Sampson provides technical support and expertise on the Canadian GeoSpatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI)[http://www.geoconnections.org/en/aboutcgdi.html]. To increase his own understanding of the use and application of the many standards within the CGDI he has created two plugins for using QGIS; an open source desktop Geospatial Information System, and the Python Scripting language to produce clients that implement the OpenGIS GeoRSS and CSW specification services into a traditional desktop GIS environment.
This presentation provides some introductory background material for those interested in these two Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc standards (OGC)[http://www.opengeospatial.org/] that are part of the growing GeoWEB. The presentation includes both a slide deck and live demo. Resources are also provided for those interested in developing plugins for QGIS and contributing their sourcecode to the community at large.
The sourcecode for both of the presented plugins can be found at the QGIS Community plugin joint repository project at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/qgiscommunitypl/
