Freeseer streaming test results

This table contains the results of my streaming testing. The rows represent the streaming resolution/bit rate combinations, and the columns represent the results at the 3 possible recording resolutions, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768. I split the results into Image Quality (such as blurriness, pixellization) and Smoothness since these were the 2 main parts of quality that varied. The Image Quality was constant regardless of recording resolution, so that has its own column, whereas the smoothness is what varied so I compared the results per recording resolution.

Notes: The quality of recording was having a big effect on the quality of streaming as it seemed. Therefore, I tested with different recording resolutions to give a better comparison. I tested at all possible combinations, although most likely we would always be recording a higher res than we are streaming. At 1024x768, the recording, while normally fairly smooth, seemed to get progressively more choppy in the video (although the audio was fine) when streaming was done at any resolution above 320x240. However, 800x600 and 640x480 resolution recording were fine at all resolutions of streaming. I factored the choppiness of the recorded video into my results.

I have bolded the “optimal average” bitrate I chose in each case. I also bolded the best bitrate row for each given recording resolution.
