Freeseer - Packaging Documentation and other updates

29 Nov in Packaging, Freeseer
Freeseer

Hi Folks:

It's been awhile since my last blog update due to exams, projects and the general busyness of school :)

I have had quite a few interesting updates on my local machine that have been committed but not pushed to my github branch. I just finished up what I was working on and pushed out the updates today (Sunday, November 28th). These updates include the following:

  • Proper handling of the compiled objects
  • Updates to setup.py for seamlessly compiling the QXT objects for Freeseer
  • Verification of installation target locations
  • Testing of the QXT .so files
  • Full documentation for packaging (both how it was accomplished and how to repeat what I've done)
  • Documentation explaining why the file system changes were made and where everything resides

I am nearing the end of the packaging project and I will be more thoroughly testing all of my changes on fresh installations of both Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and Fedora.

As it stands, a user should be able to download, build and install libqxt, then download our .deb of Freeseer and install. Sometime later in December, I will attempt to make a package for libqxt so a user can just download the two packages to quickly install Freeseer. Fedora users shouldn't have this problem, as libqxt is included in their repositories.

Thanks!
Jaymes Bearden
