Being relatively new to open source and Linux I have over the last two years been jumping between Linux Distros, having a hard time settling down. I've gotten a feel for a few distributions including Fedora, Ubuntu and openSUSE. They all had parts which I liked but they also contained features which I found annoying at times. Eventually I ended up trying Arch Linux.
This is my first blog entry here at fosslc.org and I thought I'd share something neat that I came across today working on a proof of concept for a potential customer. I'm new at Ingres and the database we are working on had some serious performance issues. There was a bottle neck when joining two tables together and the tables in question had 70 million and 3 million rows respectively, so we're talking about a fair amount of data. On our first pass through the select queries in question took around 2 minutes to run.
